COVID-19/Coronavirus Ministry Response

Grace and peace to from God our Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ, even now in these troubling times, especially now in these troubling times.

Out of love for one another and responsible concern for public safety, we at Ascension are taking seriously the need to observe the healthy and socially protective practices that are recommended to us as a house of worship, measures that seek to protect us all in these unusual times.   As circumstances change, so will also the level of our response need to change.

Know that we are monitoring the situation closely and seeking the advice of experts as we make the decisions we need to make.  We have implemented an advisory group consisting of our Council President and Vice President, plus 4 health care professionals who are also members of Ascension.

Please do your part as well.  Remember, if feeling ill yourself, please stay at home in order to protect others.

UPDATE: 3-17-2020

From Stuart Korshavn, Ascension Church Council President

We are called to care for one another.  At this time, we are especially concerned about protecting the health of members, visitors, and staff members and slowing the spread of an infectious disease in our community, a disease that can be deadly for some.  Therefore, the Church Council has taken the following actions.

  1. We will suspend gathering together for worship on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings until further notice, beginning immediately (as of March 16).  The Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Governor of the state of Wisconsin, and the Bishop of the East-Central Synod of Wisconsin of the ELCA all discourage gathering together in groups of more than 50 people.  Staff members and mission teams are working together to provide alternatives to gathering together for worship, for example, text, audio or video made available through the congregation's web site.
  2. We will close the church building until further notice beginning, Wednesday, March 18.  For the time being, only staff members will be allowed to enter the building until instructed otherwise.  For the safety and health of our staff, the doors will remain locked and access not permitted to anyone other than our staff.  Members and visitors will find all doors locked.  Steps are being taken to make it possible for many of our staff to work from home. Staff members and mission teams are working together to develop alternative means by which we can carry out the mission and ministries to which we are called and on which we depend.

Organ Concert & Celebration Reception Postponed

The big “Celebrate – Thankful and Blessed” Organ Concert and Reception we had been planning for April 4 has been put on hold due to Coronavirus safety precautions.  Our plan is to reschedule the event sometime in the future when we are again able to do so.
