LENT 2023

Lent is a spiritual journey of prayer, intentional spiritual discipline, and worship focused on suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ as He approached the cross.

The 40-day journey begins on Ash Wednesday when we receive the sign of the cross in ash upon our foreheads and hear those somber words, “You are dust and to dust you shall return.”

The worship season of Lent culminates in the Triduum (‘try-do-um’), Latin for “the three days,” of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. The worship of the church over these three days is considered one service in three parts. No benediction separates the services. We leave our Maundy Thursday worship in silence. We begin and end our Good Friday worship in silence.

Saturday is traditionally called, the Silent Sabbath, or Silent Saturday.

On Easter morning, the silence is broken with shouts of “He is risen!”

WEDNESDAYS IN LENT...

Wednesday Quiet Lenten Worship
"In the cross of Christ I glory"
Wednesdays, March 1 - March 29
6:30 - 7:10 PM
These services will be both in-person and livestreaming on our worship services page. They are a 35-40 minute quiet reflective service guided with word and music.

March 1 - “For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18

March 8 - “May I never boast of anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” Galatians 6:14

March 15 - “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24

March 22 - “Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death – even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:8

March 29 - “God made you alive together with him, when he forgave us all our trespasses, erasing the record that stood against us with its legal demands. He set this aside, nailing it to the cross.” Colossians 2:13-14

Children's Wednesday Lenten Experience
"DISCOVER LENT"
Wednesday evenings 6:30 – 7:10 PM
March 1 – 29, 2023

Each Wednesday evening during Lent our Children’s Ministry Mission Team will be leading a hands-on educational experience, “Discover Lent” for kids Kindergarten through 5th Grade in the Middle Hall. This is a great opportunity for your child(ren) to learn about the parts of Lent through age-appropriate teachings and activities.  And, while they are having a fun time together, parents can take a moment to center themselves in their own Lenten journey while attending the Quiet Meditative Lenten Service in the sanctuary.

JOURNEY TO THE CROSS VISUALIZATION EXPERIENCE

JOURNEY TO THE CROSS
A visualization experience of Jesus' journey to the cross.
Thursday, March 30 at  6:30 PM at Ascension

During this Lenten season our hearts and thoughts are reminded of the great sacrifice Jesus made for us.  Unfortunately, our lives are filled with endless obligations that can interfere with our time with Jesus. What better way to experience Holy week than to journey with Jesus in His last week on earth.

Ascension member and Spiritual Director, Mike Gilley, guides us through a visualization experience following Jesus to the cross. This 60-minute journey begins at 6:30 PM.

Please SIGN UP by contacting Amanda in the Church Office. 920-336-3561 ext 101
